Warsaw
Reincarnated from rubble at the end of World War II, Warsaw, Poland's capital, is a testament to its people's spirit and is now a World Heritage city. The architecture is a vibrant mix of historic imperialism, communist functionalism and the new embrace of capitalist shops and cafés. The reconstructed Old Town Square, cobbled streets, baroque palaces and beautiful parks contrast with the city centre's modern 235-metre high Palace of Culture and Science and its panoramic views.
